I was kind of hoping to hook up with Tammy again today for a last look around town with a local, but alas the poor thing is really sick and hasn’t left her bed for a couple of days. I wish you a speedy recovery Tams!
Had to pack up all my gear this morning and effectively “check-out”, putting all my bags etc in a locker while I waited for the next Moose Bus to swing into town. Because I am tied to the network, I am only guaranteed accommodation at the hostels along the way if I actually check-in with a group passing through. Because I have been in Montreal for a few days now, I have fallen victim to this requirement this morning.
With everything all locked away, I made the somewhat unusual move of making a conscious effort to grab a comfy seat and watch the whole Australia vs Italy World Cup tie. I say unusual cause I hate the game of soccer. So many of you out there will disagree passionately with me (Shea, Greg etc), but a game where skilled athletes (and I 100% agree that they are) run around a field for 90 minutes only to rarely get a result in a game, and if they do it’s only cause some fella took a dive… well, I think it’s all pretty lame and certainly very frustrating to watch.
Today’s game, as you may all well already know, was no exception. The somewhat entertaining game ended up being decided in the dying seconds by a penalty kick which was the result of some Italian twit diving to the turf and writhing around clutching his limbs which, incidentally, connected with nothing. What a tool and what a stupid game. Oh yeah, Australia lost. Ho-hum… *yawn*.
Used the afternoon to take my last wander around town and the Old Port area that I love so much.
Adrian, Denis and Beat had arrived with the incoming Moose Bus by the time I got back to the hostel and they had brought with them an American/Aussie named Robyn who was up for a night on the town so we all got checked in, did the whole shower thing and headed to the now very familiar to me “Crescent Street” where we paid a visit to popular drinking “happy hour holes” – “Brutopia” and “Dundee’s”.
