It’s official – the greatest rock act on the planet right now was in Vancouver last night… and “Wolfmother” be thy name.
Yes, the 2007 Grammy Award Winning Sydney trio of Andrew, Chris and Myles, winged it into my adopted home town last night, set up a wee stage in the “tin shed” out at the PNE (aka The Forum) and proceeded to raise the roof in front of thousands of appreciative fans including this little Vegemite!
Tragically, I didn’t have tickets to the sell-out show until a couple of days ago when my good mate TJ (God bless your cotton socks mate), waved one under my nose. Needless to say I jumped at the chance and met up with TJ, Bosh and Danno last night after work, had a couple of “ice breaking” beverages and cabbed it out to the PNE ready for a LOUD night of good old fashioned Rock ‘n Roll.
It may have been cold outside, but with so many bodies crammed into the one sizable mosh pit front of stage, it wasn’t long before we were dripping with sweat and the only way to cool off was with a spot of crowd surfing! Yeeeha! Ouch!
Everyone was going nuts as the boys jammed their way through a selection of tracks from their amazing debut self-titled album, kicking things off with the killer track “Dimension”. All of the big hits like “White Unicorn”, “Love Train” (which recently received the same plaudits as fellow Aussies JET by being selected to feature in an iPod TVC), “Woman” and of course my absolute favourite track (and what a way to end the night!!!) “Joker and the Thief”.
Here’s the stellar set list from last night:
- Dimension
- Pyramid
- White Unicorn
- Apple Tree
- jam/unknown
- Love Train
- Where The Eagles Have Been
- Tales From The Forest of Gnomes
- jam/unknown
- Witchcraft
- Woman
- Encore: Vegabond
- Encore: Colossal
- Encore: Communications Breakdown (Led Zeppelin cover)
- Encore: Joker and the Thief
To wind things up here, let me provide those who are really interested with a link to a somewhat amateurish bootleg video from last night’s performance. You just need to get through the crap at the start and then you get the good stuff!
Thanks one last time to T for the ticket, and also to Danno and Bosh for a fantastic night out – definitely one to remember!
