Ry, Corrie, Tess and I all took our seats in Vancouver’s amazing “Orpheum Theatre” last night as Denver outfit “The Fray” cruised into town and delivered almost the full compliment of tracks from their stella debut release “How To Save A Life” which, incidentally, shot to number one on the Aussie ARIA charts earlier this month giving the guys their first number one position anywhere in the world. And here I was wondering if anyone at home had even heard of these guys.
All I can say is that the boys were every bit as impressive on stage as they are in the studio. While they obviously have limited material with only one album under their belts and therefore performing a fairly short set, there’s every indication that they’re going to be a solid live act for many years to come.
Here’s a wee 20 second grab that someone took on a crappy mobile phone from last night during their hit song “Cable Car”, and then I found a great little vid on the boys’ video blog of them covering the Shakira track “Hips Don’t Lie” in the BBC studios in London. Personally I think Shakira is one of the worst vocalists on the planet, and quite possibly the only thing below her would be her music. However, when “The Fray” get stuck into one of her so-called “hits”, it suddenly sounds pretty good!
The band is back in the Lower Mainland playing at “Deer Lake Park” in Burnaby on 29th July. Tickets are on sale tomorrow (23rd March) for anyone who’s interested.
And just because I’m feeling generous tonight, here’s one last vid – this time the video for The Fray’s hit single “How To Save A Life”, the song that for a time became the unofficial anthem for the ever popular “Grey’s Anatomy”.
