A super sunny, hot and stunning Summer’s weekend here in Vancouver provided ideal conditions for the 2009 Corona Open – a pro beach volleyball competition held on Kitsilano Beach and featuring the top men’s and women’s pairings from across North America.
Having done a spot of photography at last year’s event, I headed down to the water for a couple of hours on both Saturday and Sunday to take in some of the action, and was lucky enough to catch the men’s bronze medal playoff and the women’s gold medal playoff on Sunday afternoon. The atmosphere was sizzling with a large gathering of bikini-and-board-short-clad BC volleyball fans populating the buzzing beer garden (affectionately known as “Coronaville”) off the side of centre court, while a DJ kept popular beats pumping all day long.
