I think I’ve mentioned a few times now how the “Masefield family” have never really been big winners of contests of any kind. Every time I’ve brought that up, however, it’s been to launch into a Blog entry about how one of us has won something. Somehow I don’t think I’m going to get away with that gripe anymore…
Case in point: Today I received an email from the lovely “Jessica” (Marketing Coordinator for SCENE – a cinema rewards program run by Scotiabank & Cineplex Entertainment) who informed me that I had won a couple of VIP tickets to the sold out Jamie Cullum concert at the Commodore Ballroom on March 20th. It seems the 50 SCENE points I recently traded in for an entry into the ticket draw paid off! Woot!
For those of you who don’t know who Jamie Cullum is, he’s a damn talented jazz-pop singer songwriter from the UK who has become known for his versatility across different music styles and instruments. He has a unique ability to “jazzify” popular hits from artists such as the White Stripes, Kanye West, Massive Attack, Rihanna, Pussycat Dolls, Radiohead, Gnarls Barkley, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Joy Division and Lady Gaga, using looped samples of his voice and hitting things… just take a look at this cover of “7 Nation Army” and you’ll see what I mean:
I was first thoroughly impressed by Jamie’s live performances after catching him at the 2006 Ottawa Jazz Festival where he was the headlining act.
Adding that to my 2010 concert schedule, it’s already looking like it’s going to be a sweet Spring/Summer already! Here’s a glimpse of the lineup so far:
- March 20 – JamieCullum @ The Commodore Ballroom
- April 1 – John Mayer @ GM Place
- April 17 – Matt Anderson @ Maple Ridge
- May 14 – David Grey @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre
- May 29 – John Butler Trio @ The Commodore Ballroom
- June 11 – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (supported by Joe Cocker) @ The Gorge Amphitheatre
I can’t wait to get started!!!
