With a little over 1 month remaining now until the puck drops for the 2010-11 NHL Season, Vancouver city is starting to buzz with great anticipation of what, and I recall the local pundits have thrown this out there at the start of every season I have witnessed so far, could be the best chance the Vancouver Canucks have at raising the coveted multi-layered Stanley Cup since their deep tilt back in 1994.
The coming season also marks the 40th Anniversary of the club, so in a fitting lead up to the October 9 home game against the LA Kings, the Canucks.com website have charged one of their writers, Derek Jory, with counting down 40 great moments in the club’s history. Die hard fans would probably be able to guess most of the selections without too much trouble, but it’s anyone’s guess as to what order they will fall.
At the time of writing this entry, the following 9 moments have already surfaced with number 30 due to launch tomorrow morning.
- #40 – Vancouver joins the NHL
- #39 – Canucks > Bruins
- #38 – Hanlon hammers Habs
- #37 – Longest. Road trip. Ever.
- #36 – Overcoming the odds
- #35 – Smyl sets the tone
- #34 – Wilkins makes history
- #33 – One for the win column
- #32 – Seventh heaven
