Sun, surf and good times - Sunshine Coast style!

Today I indulged in one of the main things I was hoping to achieve while on this trip home - a day of sun, surf and good times with my Dad up on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Being the area I literally grew up surfing on when I was growing up, it's a long way from the mountains of British Columbia which means I have been missing it a lot since having made the move to Canada almost three years ago now.

The formula is normally pretty straight forward - straight to one of the beaches in and around Caloundra for a surf first thing in the morning followed by a Dickies Beach Devil Dog (the most amazing hot dogs on the planet featuring the bun, the dog, pineapple, onion, bacon, BBQ sauce and cheese!). Normally we leave it at that and make a bee-line for home, but since I'm not getting the frequent opportunity to be up here these days, Dad and I decided to make a day of it and head up into the picturesque hinterland region up behind the coastline.

We headed firstly for Montville, a great little craft village up in the mountains which has been a favourite getaway of mine since I was introduced to it by my first ever girlfriend's family over 15 years ago. We made an obligatory stop at the famous "Candy Addictions" shop where you can watch the lollie makers churn out the produce by hand at pretty much any time of day, had a bit of a walk around and then headed back to the car and made the brief drive up to Mary Cairncross Park where you get probably the most spectacular views of the Glasshouse Mountains.

A great little day trip by anyone's standards and some quality time with my Dad so I was pretty stoked with the whole experience. I took a few pictures along the way which you can view by clicking on the gallery trigger above.
