Tiki Bar TV

Following my recent post on my newly discovered addiction to video podcasting, I've had the odd podcast recommendation flung my way and to be honest some have left a lot to be desired.

On the other end of the scale, however, I was introduced the other day (by my boss Collin, no less) to the comedic charms of "Tiki Bar TV". Filmed and produced on a shoe-string budget right here in my adopted home town of Vancouver, BC, Tiki Bar TV is the name given to a series of 5-6 minute episodes following the sometimes non-sensical, but always entertaining exploits of the stethoscope draped Doctor Tiki, the ravishing brunette beauty - Lala, and the leopard-skin-fez wearing master of liquid mixtures - Johnny Johnny.

Each episode follows a similar format kicking off with Lala dancing across the screen (often my favourite part - I'm not going to lie) followed by some sort of misguided adventure themed around the name of a popular cocktail. The cocktail in question each episode often makes a cameo appearance at some point, and the ingredients needed to throw the concoction together yourself is always presented so you can enjoy your very own "Tiki Bar" moment at home.

I guess I can be considered a late adopter when it comes to the popular series as I've only tuned in from Episode 30 onwards so far. Titled "Ice Breaker", the gang are forced to broker a deal with a nasty Russian spy, Mr Ambassador, to assist in unfreezing Lala when she is frozen solid after drinking an "Ice Breaker" cocktail.

Some of the literature I've managed to track down on the web about the show so far have made mention of the low budget nature of the series. I for one think the special effects are top notch, and the "freeze" effect employed in episode 30 is a perfect example.

Take a look at Tiki Bar TV: Episode 30 - Ice Breaker for yourself.

If, like me, that's simply not enough Tiki Bar TV entertainment for you for one day, you can check out the full archive of episodes on the Tiki Bar TV website, subscribe to the Tiki Bar TV video podcast, and even pick up one of those sweet "Charooba" cocktail mugs of your very own from the Tiki Bar TV store!

But anyway, I'll leave you to it - I've got a date with Lala to get to... ok, there goes that wishful thinking thing again! ;)
