Photo Shoot: 2008 ITU World Championships

Elite male and female triathletes from around the globe descended on Vancouver's English Bay and West End streets this past weekend to compete in the ITU World Championship event.
With the title of "World Champion" up for grabs for both the men and women, the competition was intense in conditions that could hardly be considered ideal for this type of racing. In what HAS to be viewed as unseasonably cool temperatures, competitors were subjected to overcast skies and water temps of near 11 degrees, bested only slightly by the 14 degree air temperatures they would spend the rest of the race pushing through. You only had to survey the heavy and multi-layered attire of the supporters and onlookers to know it was chilly.
Dressed in appropriately Aussie flavoured supporter gear, I made my way around the course for the woman's race, eventually taken out in a final sprint by Brit Helen Tucker, and half of the men's race taken out by undisputed world number one right now - Spaniard Javier Gomez.

How come there are far more photos of the female athletes than there are of the male athletes??
A little chilly there at the time was it??

For the simple reason that I was only able to see the FULL race for the females. For the men I knew I wasn't going to be able to get down to the beach for the swim and back up to Davie street for the bike knowing that I had to leave the race altogether before the run leg anyway. Therefore, I was only able to snap a few bike pics for them.
Simple as that...
