Firefox 3 World Download Day

The long awaited Firefox 3 browser officially launches this Tuesday, 17th June in what many are predicting and hoping (including me) will signal the end of the dominance (largely through ignorance of any kind of superior alternative) of Microsoft's Internet Explorer (IE).
Boasting an impressive number of improvements to security, usability, personal customisation and performance, the good folk at Mozilla are confident that they will be able to smash the Guinness World Record for number of downloads of a software title in a 24 hour period... yes, really. Some of the improvements are as follows:
- Much faster load times
- Fixed memory leak problem in Firefox 2
- An "Awesome Bar" (aka smart location bar) that suggests sites you’ve visited before or bookmarked when you type a URL into the address bar.
- Better security against phishing and malware
- One-click bookmarking
- Offline capabilities
- Built-in spell-check and session restore capabilities (like Firefox 2)
- Cool zoom-in feature
- Looks better on a Mac
While I couldn't give a lemur's right testicle over the whole World Record dribble, I am really hoping that anyone who takes my word even remotely seriously when it comes to all things "Internet" will download Firefox 3 on Tuesday, if only to give the browser a test run against their normal IE experience. I almost guarantee that within an hour of using Firefox, you'll be close to uninstalling IE and making the intelligent switch without so much as a second thought.
For all those who have already "seen the light" and have been happily been using Firefox 2 for the past 12 months or so, get excited - this upgrade will provide you with significant improvements to the browsing experience you have already come to know, love and trust.
Mark it down in your diaries - Tuesday, 17th June is Firefox 3 Download Day. Visit the Download Day website now or www.getfirefox.com on Tuesday for more details.

Will the Government computers finally allow a switch to Firefox? Unlikely. In fact, definently not.
It's in the calendar buddy. You had to know it would be...
As of just over 48 hours after the launch, they've managed to hit 13.4 Million downloads. Not bad...
