2008 Celebration of Light - Team China

Well I stand corrected. I was mouthing off all week about how Team China have left me wanting for the past 3 years that they have let their rockets go in the annual "Celebration of Light" International fireworks competition over Vancouver's English Bay. Boy did they make me eat my words tonight.

As much as I hate to admit it, Team Canada (the only other team I have seen this year), were left looking somewhat amateurish as the Chinese team put on a powerful, colourful and even emotional display with a distinctive Olympic feel titled, "Power of the Dream".

Let me just say straight out, if Team China don't take out the competition this year then it will be a crying shame. WOW!

And on a final note, it's already been asked of me whether some of these shots are multiple exposures. They are not. Almost ALL the shots in tonight's gallery were shot using a 3.2 second shutter speed. Simple as that.

UPDATE: I've now put together a gallery of all my images from the 2008 Celebration of Light festival. Click here to view it.

    Bloody brilliant shots, Rob.

Surest sign that China won? I was actually afraid for my life on a few occasions last night, being so close to the action.

P.S. In my signature, I've left the link to where I'll be storing all of the Vimeo (higher quality) videos I take of the nights. Not sure how I'm going to select highlights from last night...

Thanks Jords... and I agree with you on the intensity of the display. There were a few times there where you could feel EVERY explosion hit you in the chest. Just AWESOME!

Thanks for the post. My concern is... it doesn't matter how much money China puts in the Olympic... the city is so dirty, that the contamination levels are a bit insane...

Got something to say?
