Usain "Lightning" Bolt: Simply Amazing

Usain

I haven't really touched on the Beijing Olympics since they started a week or so ago, mainly because my interest and loyalties obviously lie with the Aussie team, and it's difficult to follow their performances from Canada with only Canadian and US coverage available.

But there's been a few notable performances away from the Aussie camp that are more than worthy of note, firstly there's the amazing 8 gold medal haul of yank super fish Michael Phelps - easily one of the greatest athletic performances in the history of the Olympics. But for me, and perhaps this is due to my own background in athletic sprinting, the seemingly effortless double gold medal, double world record effort of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has been the highlight of the games so far.

Aptly nicknamed "Lightning", Bolt took out the men's 100m / 200m sprint double in an achievement that hasn't been matched since the great Carl Lewis, 24 years ago. His bold, almost child-like charisma has been really something to behold and I can't wait to see just how fast he's going to go in the coming years.

Not only winning, but setting two world records in the process? That's pretty incredible.

The top story on the net this morning as per Yahoo! Buzz is that the IOC President, some lame ass named "Jacques Rogge", has ripped into Bolt claiming that his show boating after his victories were not in the Olympic spirit.

Thankfully, in rebuttal, Yahoo! Sports reporter Dan Wetzel has written a well penned article pointing out the stupidity of Rogge's comments.
