Well, it took three tries, but it looks like the Vancouver Canucks organisation have finally got it right with today's release of the team's third jersey. Read more

Hockey's Baaaaaack! - NHL Season 2008/09

October 12, 2008

Hockey's Baaaaaack!

After what has seemed like a REALLY long off-season (always does when the Canucks don't make the playoffs in the previous season), the new 2008/09 NHL season kicked off last week with the Canucks taking on the Calgary Flames in a physical 2-game home and away series where the boys pulled off a couple of BIG wins (6-0) and (5-4 OT). Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge - The Finalists

Canada's Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge

Well it's been almost three months now since I first blogged about the CBC's online search for a new anthem for their popular "Hockey Night in Canada" broadcast on Saturday nights.

Now that TSN have secured the rights for the much loved anthem of old, Canadians have been voting on hundreds of good, bad and ugly anthems developed by lovers of NHL from all over the country. Read more

Usain "Lightning" Bolt: Simply Amazing

August 20, 2008

Usain

I haven't really touched on the Beijing Olympics since they started a week or so ago, mainly because my interest and loyalties obviously lie with the Aussie team, and it's difficult to follow their performances from Canada with only Canadian and US coverage available. Read more

2008 ITU World Championships

Elite male and female triathletes from around the globe descended on Vancouver's English Bay and West End streets this past weekend to compete in the ITU World Championship event.

With the title of "World Champion" up for grabs for both the men and women, the competition was intense in conditions that could hardly be considered ideal for this type of racing. Read more

Photo Shoot: Lions & Broncos Weekend

Brisbane Broncos vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

Somehow on this brief trip home to Brisbane, I managed to time a weekend where the city's two premiere football teams the mighty Brisbane Lions (AFL) and the Brisbane Broncos (NRL) were both playing at home.

As far as the Lions go, I have to admit I timed my trip to include their home game today - the first I've managed to see live since I headed over to Vancouver. I headed out to that big beautiful stadium - "The Gabba" with Cobie, Greg and Angie to watch the Lions soundly trounce the Melbourne Demons 137-85. Read more

Trevor Linden's Final Skate

April 5, 2008

Trevor Linden

There's times over here in Vancouver when this little Aussie thinks he's perhaps been here too long. Take tonight for instance.

My beloved Vancouver Canucks, and yes I do talk about them as if they are my very own team even after only being a resident here for 3 years, have had a pretty rocky season and, if we're to be completely honest, a pretty disappointing tail end. A playoffs berth was theirs for the taking if they wanted it enough. But, with the exception of their gritty win last week over arch rivals the Calgary Flames, the Canucks went into their final handful of must-win games with a seeming lack of the energy and passion required to take a team into the middle stages of April (aka playoff time). Beautiful Blackcomb

Beautiful Blackcomb

Was lucky enough to hitch a ride up to Whistler today for an awesome day of boarding with my mate Dani. Leaving at the crack of dawn (following my late night out last night) was a little harder than expected, but we got on the highway early and joined the lengthy lines at the bottom of the Blackcomb Gondola with the prospect of popping out the top of the low level cloud to some sunny skies up at the glacier. 2008 Australian Open Women's Glamour Final

Ivanovic VS Sharapova

Hmmmm... I'm not sure that it gets much better than this does it fellas?

After a couple of semi-entertaining women's semi-final match-ups at the Australian Open down in Melbourne today, two of the (let's just say) more attractive ladies on the circuit made their way through to the final on the weekend - Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova. Read more
