The crafty devils at “Instant Sports” have come up with “cutting edge technology (which) allows for the creation of a broad and customisable range of authentic surfing waves in a safe and natural environment.”

The product known as “Wavegarden”, can be installed in new or existing lakes and ponds in an environmentally safe and friendly way that involves wave generation technology being hidden, either underground or underwater. The entire dealio just looks dead set cool and presents an exciting opportunity for inland communities to have access to waves in an economically viable way.

To find out more about the concept, check out the official “Wavegarden” website and check out the promotional video below.

Hot on the heals of the release of the official 2010 Vancouver Spectator Guide, local NHL team, the Vancouver Canucks have themselves launched an iPhone application onto the Apple iTunes Store.

Placing simple access to fan fodder like team news, photos, videos, a schedule calendar, league ladders, statistics, forums, blogs and ticketing information, in the palm of your hand while on the go is a fantastic step by the club. And since the app is super cheap (ie. FREE), there’s no excuse for true iPhone or iPod Touch fans of the team to be behind the ball on anything to do with the club from now on.

With so much going on in Vancouver in the coming few weeks, it’s hard to keep up with all the sporting and entertainment options on offer. Sure, there’s a number of summarized guides being offered by various Bloggers out there, but that’s not necessarily much help when you need to know what’s on and how to get to it, at a moments notice.

For iPhone and iPod Touch owners out there, your all encompassing solution has now arrived. The FREE Official Mobile Spectator Guide of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games was recently released in the Apple iTunes Store. Covering more than 2,000 sporting and cultural events across all Olympic venues and other places of interest, the guide uses the iPhone’s optional location awareness technology to let you know how far away certain events and parties are from where you are, and harnesses Google Maps to show you how to get to them.

Filled with venue information, maps, diagrams and event timetables (see screen shots below), this beautiful application makes it dead easy to compile your own selection of “Favourites” which you can save for easy reference as the Olympic festivities unfurl. You’ll never have an excuse for missing any of the big events over the next few weeks!

For more information, and to get your own FREE download of the application, visit the Official 2010 Vancouver Guide application page on the Apple website.

Unless you have had your head stuck in the sand somewhere, you would have already seen or heard something about the upcoming Apple iPhone, the next iPod-replacing innovation announced Tuesday at the annual Apple “geek-meet”.

It’s been posted all over the Blogosphere, but I realise some of my readers don’t read a lot of other Blogs and aren’t all that “techie” so here’s a brief demo of what this amazing gadget is going to be able to do for you.

A few notes before you watch the vid below

The iPhone will combine your iPod, phone and handheld Internet device into one hell of a high tech, sexy gadget.

The “white dot” in the demo below represents your finger movements as the widescreen device is fully touch screen activated.

Yes, the display actually does change when you switch it around in your hand from landscape to portrait orientation. There’s a sensor built in that detects this movement. Yikes!

Apple may yet have a battle on their hands getting the device to the masses. The launch of the iPhone is already up against a number of legal challenges over the use of the name amongst other things, and in order for the device to go mainstream, it’s going to require a HUGE collaborative effort with telecommunications companies in each country of launch. It’s fair to say therefore, that in Australia where the telecommunications infrastructure is archaic and years behind the rest of the world, there will be no point in getting excited about the iPhone at this stage. Sorry.
